Explore New Features of IE 8 sur Windows 7 Machines

Internet Explorer is most often used browser worldwide. You must have been very familiar with IE8’s basic features, but there are actually a lot of other features hidden in this browser. This article will tell you more on IE8.

 

1.      Restore the IE start button

Usually IE quick launch button is settled on system taskbar. But it often disappears due to misoperation. Then how to restore it?

 

Right-click the IE icon on desktop, select Create a Shortcut in the popup menu, and then a shortcut for IE is created.

 

Open Project Manager, double click “Windows” le dossier, then “ApplicationDapuis>”, then “Mircrosoft”, then “InternetExplorer”, and then “QuickLaunch”. The next step is to drag the IE shortcut icon on desktop into QuickLaunch folder.

 

There is an alternative that is easier. Click and hold the IE icon on desktop, dragging it to taskbar area. Do hold the icon until a dotted line icon appears.

 

2.      You can resume downloads

When we click a download link in IE page, IE will start downloading the file using its inbuilt download system. On the occasion of disconnection, the download will fail and you have to download the whole file once again.

 

It is quite user-unfriendly. But don’t worry; there is still way to resume downloads in this situation. When you find the download disconnects, or stops, click the X button instead of “Cancel”, in which way you temporarily quit download. Click the download link again, click Save. When a Save window pops up, keep the file name and save location the same with those of the previous file. De cette façon, IE could resume download. Remarque: It only works for HTTP download, while FTP does not apply for this rule.

 

3.      Disable the IE options

If everyone is allowed to change IE options, IE will be dangerous. Imagine the situation: someone lowers the security level in Internet Options. Then virus and Trojan exploit the vulnerability and infect your computer. To ensure online security, you may need to disable IE internet options.

 

Premier, open Windows Project Explorer, and find a folder “system32″. Click into the folder, faites un clic droit “inetcpl.cpl”, et sélectionnez “Rename” in the popup menu to rename “inetcpl.cpl” à “inetcplnew.cpl”. Now you cannot access the option setting window any more when clicking the Internet Options of IE.

 

4.      Fix IE without any tool

It is almost unavoidable for IE to receive some online attacks. When it happens, what will you do to fix it? I think most of people resort to IE repair utilities, while skilled hand would edit registry, therefore to repair IE. But if you have no IE repair utilities at hand, or you are not skilled at registry, there is a way for you to fix IE without any tool.

 

Procédure:

Cliquez “Démarrer”-”Réglages”-”Panneau de configuration”, and then double-click “Administrative Tools”–”Computer Management”. In the popup window, double-click “Outils système”-”Local Users and Groups”-”Utilisateur”. Right-click the blank area of the new window, Sélectionnez “New User”, rename it “newusr”, and you may set a password for the new user account.

 

After it, click “logoff from the Local Administrator”, and then log in as “newusr”. Cliquez sur Démarrer, input “regedit” to activate registry editor. Unfold “HKEY_CURRENT_USER”-”Logiciel”-”Microsoft”-”InternetExplorer”. Cliquez “InternetExplorer”-click “Fichiers” in the menu-click “Exporter”, in which way the registry settings of IE will be exported. Save the exported file as “ienew.reg”. The file contains default correct registry setting which hasn’t been ever attacked by virus or Trojan.

 

Log off newusr, and log in as Administrator. Open registry editor as instructed above, click Files in the menu, cliquez “Import reg files”, Sélectionnez “ienew.reg” and open, and then IE is restored.

 

The method introduced above seems very complicated. For simpler resolution, you can refer to IE repair utility, which makes recover IE really easy by one click.

 

5.      Recover IE8 desktop icon

Microsoft canceled IE 8 desktop display in Windows 7 OS due to the new feature Superbar. That is to say, IE8 icon cannot be shown on desktop, shortcut not counted. But if you would like to recover IE8 desktop icon, there is a way. Some PC maintenance software like TuneUp Utilities has this feature. Set as you like using the utilities software, and you could get the changes very quickly.
